About Us
The mission of the Family Liaison Project (FLP) is to build an active network of support to nurture and sustain families of children with disabilities through life’s transitions. The FLP encourages families to look at the future of their children emerging as productive adults living independently.
The FLP has three core objectives:
Training, Advocacy and Support
Training for parents, caregivers and professionals of children with disabilities.
Advocacy, we help parents negotiate the Individual Education Plan process with 1 on 1 preparation, attending the IEP meeting with parents and helping parents understand the benefits of being a productive and effective team member.
Support to families of children with disabilities. Collaborate with local agencies and parent support groups to ensure parents receive emotional confirmation and acceptance within the community. We embrace and share the philosophy that families need to not only understand their child’s disability but also celebrate their abilities.
Liaisons are parents of students who are (or have been) enrolled in exceptional education programs in Brevard County. Our role is to guide and empower families to become collaborative, effective supporters in assisting their children to reach their full potential.
The Family Liaison Project has assisted over 50,000 families over the last ten years.
IEP trainings, family support, workshops are all programs that have been developed to meet the needs of Brevard Families.
"The Jim and Terry Show" has been requested for families in Brevard, Indian River, Seminole,Polk, and Sarasota Counties.
... The FLP offers multi-faceted services to enhance the lives of children who learn differently.
We are proud to welcome Emily DeWoody our newest liaison. Emily is the proud mother of Mya who is picture on the home page of our website. Emily's prior experiences as a Teacher at Bayside High and a PreK teacher at Space Coast Early Intervention Center allows her not only a parents perspective but a teacher's insight to the educationally relevant services many of our students require.
